Just in case you didn’t subscribe to my other blog, this is a link

New iPad Stand - Pad Pivot
Always a sucker for these Kickstarter projects, but I do like the design of this!
Worth a punt for just $25 although I need to add another $15 for delivery to Europe. Nice thing is you’re not restricted to just the iPad, you can use it for any “pad” device.

iPad at CES
No Apple at CES this year, as always!
No need for them really as they seem to be a constant presence, with most of the vendors looking to put forward their response to a product launched in the previous year. Seems like there are lots of competitors lining up to go head to head with the iPad at CES this year.
I think one report mentioned over 35 companies looking to release a tablet, all based...
Still Here!
Wondering where I’d got too?
If you follow me on Twitter you’ll know I’m still alive and kicking, just snowed under with preparation with work for Macworld and MacMania 11
I’ve got some ideas on how to move forward with my iPad coverage, but with pressures being what they are, it’s unlikely I won’t be in a position to do anything about it until these trips...

iPad on Contract →
As I mentioned last week, it’s now been announced that the iPad is available on contract with Orange.
You can now get an iPad for £199 with a 2 year data plan for £25 per month (£27 for new customers)
Not cheap, especially as it is just for data!
In all honesty, you’d be better off buying a 3G iPad outright and getting a cheap monthly data plan from 3 (you can get 1GB per month for...

Looks like it’s official!
Today is the day plus there’ll be a new update to the Apple TV to enable AirPlay (4.1)
Looking forward to it ;-)
Everything Everywhere to cut iPad price in UK →
Oh wow!
Looks like the UK will be getting subsidised 3G iPads in time for the Christmas. Although the iPad is a relatively low priced item for the functionality and the power it delivers, the availability of a subsidised model will push many people over the edge.

Looks like more option for AirPrinting are available following on from my earlier post. This looks interesting as it allows you to “virtual print” to you Mac or even to DropBox directly from your iOS device.
Well worth checking out!

AirPrinting in iOS4 →
I have to say that I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times I’ve wished I could print from my iPad or iPhone - it’s just not something I tend to do.
But that’s just me and you may have different requirements.
If you have, and are salivating about the inclusion of AirPrinting in iOS4, the chances are you may have been disappointed when iOS 4 hits the streets,...

Native Editing in Google Docs on iPad →
Could this be the holy grail of document editing on the iPad?
The ability to edit a document, stored in the cloud, directly on your mobile device (assuming you have an Internet connection) seems to be an ideal scenario.
We’ll have to see how it plays out in practice.

Stream Live Freeview or Satellite TV to your iPad →
Just written a new blogpost over on the MacScreenCastGuy blog about some developments from Elgato.
It’s now possible (well once iOS 4.2 is released) to stream live Freeview and Sateliite TV directly to your iPad from the Elgato netsream devices.

iPad as a Newspaper Replacement? →
Interesting article on using an iPad as a replacement for a daily newspaper
Hangs head in shame!
Yes, it’s over a month since I posted to the blog.
Have I fallen out of love with the iPad?
Does the fact I have a new 13” MacBook Air mean the iPad is no longer relevant?
Absolutely not!
The iPad is still a huge part of my day to day Mac experience, and it’s still unsurpassed in what it does.
It’s just that I took my eye off the ball and needed to attend to some...

iOS4.2 Update
Second attempt! I wrote a couple of paras on the morning after installing 4.2 with my initial thoughts, only to have it lost by the Tumblr web interface. I’m now trying again, this time using Blogpress on the iPad. So initial thoughts…. I won’t go over all the new features of iOS 4.2 but just some observations of some of the major points. Multitasking - Probably the most...

Killer iPad App?
You’ve probably heard of it already but have you tried Flipboard yet?
Woah!
Flipboard is a new type of content aggregator that allows you to access web content via a stunning interface. It basically allows you to create your own personalised eMagazine on the iPad.
As well as some pre-defined sections that your can swap in and out, Flipboard also allows you to add in you Twitter and...

DIstracted by the iPhone 4
OK, I have to say it….
The introduction of the iPhone 4 did distract me temporarily from the iPad.
Not sure what it was that distracted me. It could have been iOS 4 and multitasking, or it could have been the Retina display, or perhaps just because it was new and shiny!
Either way, the iPad took a bit of a back seat for a week or two.
But the iPhone 4 honeymoon is now over, and I find myself...

Osfoora HD for the iPad
My favourite Twitter client on the iPad has just had a make over and is now available at the App store as version 1.1.
Some big changes in this release including a brand new landscape layout and the inclusion of a “light” theme.
Another big inclusion is support for Wacchen - a free web service that’s a bit like InstaPaper but for videos! Very handy for saving away all...

The Missing iPad Apps
Just a list of the apps I wish would find their way to the iPad, sooner rather than later. I’m somewhat surprised we’re still waiting for them.
In no particular order:
Apple Remote: A fantastic app crying out for the big screen treatment. Wondering if the rumours of the new Apple TV have any bearing on the absence of this?
Tumblr: Yes, the iPhone app works fine but we really need...

iPad, iPhone 4 and iOS 4
My pre-order for the iPhone 4 went through without a hitch and I ended up the proud owner of an iPhone 4 on launch day. It’s fair to say that the iPad has taken a back seat for a couple of weeks whilst the novelty of the iPhone 4 was still fresh.
The Retina display, the camera and the HD video are probably the high points for me, oh yes, and the multitasking (or rather, fast task...

patnpm asked: Don- have you tried padsync yet? synchronises folders on your mac with ipad - seems to work well on my first go - suspect we'll all be using it soon.
pictor asked: Hi Don. Have you investigated or learned anything about code editors for the iPad? Specifically HTML, javascaript, and CSS, though the more support beyond that the better. Something like textmate for iPad perhaps. There are a few on the app store, but they are scarce on the reviews and ratings (at least in my country's store)

EyeTV on the iPad
Fantastic!
Elgato have just released an update to their iPhone application for the EyeTV client to run natively on the iPad. More information on the Elgato website
The app has been redesigned to use the extra real estate of the iPad screen and will stream your live or recorded programmes to your iPad wirelessly over 3G or WiFi.
As well as playback, the application allows you to set...

mlmoro asked: I've had my iPad for about a week and I'm reading how people are having 12 or so hours with out a recharge. I frequently find I'm struggling to reach this mark. I Charge it all night, don't use it during the day and then after 3:30 I begin to use it. It drops down to 20% (or lower) by 11:30.
Does the battery still need to be conditioned or should I expect this...

Reeder - The second vanguard of iPad Apps
Heading back from San Francisco, rather than spend all the flight watching movies on the iPad, I thought I’d take some time to have a play with some of the apps on the iPad and even create some blog posts.
Towards the end of last week, the big news was that Reeder for iPad was now available. I’ve tried NetNewsWire as my RSS reader but ended up liking NewsRack, mainly for the ease of...

Travelling With The iPad
Just completed my first serious long haul flight with the iPad, travelling to WWDC in San Francisco. I have own before with the iPad on the way back from New York, but I didn’t really have chance to set it up with some in flight entertainment.
When I say long haul, I mean long haul. Manchester to Newark (8 hours) a 3 hour stop over and then Newark to San Francisco (6 hours).
The previous...

ashpole asked: Hi Don,
I'm sure you've answered this one! But old age requires I ask again!
When I'm away with my iPad and can't sync to my Mac, how do I get my SCO member shows? I guess the best way is to log in through the SCO web site and watch the streaming version; because I can't find anywhere to stick the subscription URL into the iPod app?!?

kim asked: You wouldn't happen to have heard anybody else mentioning MobileMe mail not being pushed to their iPads on time have you? Mine can sometimes arrive five minutes behind my iPhone and Mac, even when I'm actively using it on Wi-Fi.

I can plug my iPhone into my PC via USB (no iTunes account on it) and it will charge. When I plug in my iPad it says 'not charging'. Any idea why?

Have you replaced the Apple Wallpapers on your iPad? I noticed that when I did this my images lost sharpness, very disappointing. I didn't resize my images, should I have done this, do you know?
I've had my iPad just three days and I love it, your Blog has proved very informative, thank you.
